PDF Compressor

Popular Runs in Your Browser

Rewrites a PDF with a more compact internal structure and shows the actual before and after file size. It is lossless: images and text are not changed, so savings depend on the file and can be small.

Browser-based: this tool works on your device and does not send your input to an Alona Tool server. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Example Usage & Test Cases

PDF exported with extra overhead
Input Scenario:
A PDF saved by a tool that stores many small objects uncompressed
Generated Result:
A smaller file with identical pages, if the structure can be packed more tightly
Scan made of photos
Input Scenario:
A 20 MB PDF that is mostly page photographs
Generated Result:
Little or no saving — the tool tells you so and offers no download

How It Works

1

Your PDF is opened in your browser and checked to be a readable, unencrypted PDF.

2

It is saved again with compact object streams, which can remove structural overhead. Pages, text and images are left untouched.

3

The real sizes are compared. A download is offered only if the new file is actually smaller; you can also choose to clear document properties such as author and title.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most of the size of many PDFs is image data. This tool does not re-compress images (that would reduce quality), so a PDF made of photos or scans often cannot shrink further without quality loss.

Good to Know

Common uses

  • Trimming structural overhead from PDFs before emailing them
  • Clearing author and title properties before sharing

Limitations and notes

  • This is lossless optimization, not image re-compression: PDFs that are large because of photos or scans may shrink very little, and the tool says so instead of offering a download.
  • Password-protected PDFs cannot be processed. Keep your original file.

Lossless PDF optimization with honest results

Many online compressors promise large reductions and quietly degrade your images. This tool takes the opposite approach: it only applies changes that cannot alter how the document looks, and reports the exact numbers.

If you need a much smaller file, reduce the size of the images before building the PDF (for example with the Image Compressor), or export the document again from its source program with a lower image quality setting.

Key Highlights:

  • Lossless — no quality change
  • Real before/after sizes
  • Optional clearing of document properties
  • No download offered when nothing was saved
  • Processed in your browser
